UNSTOPPABLE POWER
2-track machines deliver the strongest straight-line pull, very efficient power transfer, and high flotation. Predestined for flat terrain and dry, loose soil.
The bold design of the 8R/RT/RX Series tractors announces what they’re all about: pulling power that stops for nothing and technology that moves modern farming forward.
The 8RT two-track machines deliver the strongest straight-line pull, very efficient power transfer, and high flotation that is predestined for flat terrain and dry, loose soil.
The AirCushion™ suspension effectively isolates the chassis from the harsh shocks of uneven terrain. In combination with the advanced four-post cab suspension with 50 to 100 mm (2 to 3.9 in.) of travel range, you’ll experience a level of comfort that is uncommon in two-track tractors. Both suspensions are available as part of the base configuration.
All 8RT Tractors come with in-cab steering sensitivity adjustment so you can tailor the steering response to your individual needs. The in-line tension arm and alignment mechanism virtually eliminate the risk of belt derailing.
Engine specifications in marketing materials can be deceiving. What matters is the power that is transmitted to the ground and to the power take-off (PTO), accounting for the natural losses along the whole drivetrain.
John Deere transmissions have extremely low power losses. The PowerShift™ and e23™ transmissions are purely mechanically driven. Also, with the AutoPowr™ transmission, the losses are minimal as the hydrostatic power flow is very small in the main working ranges.
Maintaining the 94 percent overall tractor efficiency benchmark of the previous 8R Series was a priority for the design of the updated 8R.*
*DLG Test 9/2016, Test Nr. 2016-00253, www.dlg.org/; figures do not include boost
John Deere builds and tunes engines for optimal performance in the most demanding agricultural applications. It’s what the engines stand for, and it is what John Deere is known for.
The power decal on the hood merely shows the rated engine power. However, unlike many other tractors, John Deere engines deliver a torque rise of up to 40 percent and an outstanding power bulge of around 10 percent in the field. This maximum power is always available under all conditions. Plus, if extra loads occur suddenly and the engine rpm drops a little, the torque continues to increase, and you stay within the constant power range. This makes for the tremendous pulling power John Deere engines stand for.
On the road or in power take-off (PTO) applications, the engine’s Intelligent Power Management can yet again unleash an extra boost of 26.1 kW (35 hp).
The 16-speed PowerShift transmission is available for the wheeled models up to the 8R 340, with 16 forward and five reverse speeds for efficient and reliable gear shifting in tough field work.
First introduced in 1994, the PowerShift transmission delivers the strength to handle sudden, high-torque power loads while maintaining responsive, application-based shifting.
The speeds are carefully spaced for optimal engine power and torque utilization and to allow the operator to select the appropriate gear for maximum fuel economy and productivity. The transmission provides six gears between 4 and 12 km/h (2.5 and 7.5 mph) to always ensure the optimal gear/rpm combination.
The fully mechanical e23 transmission is engineered to deliver maximum efficiency and robustness for real arable farming. The Efficiency Manager™ feature allows you to pre-set the ground speed and then sets the engine to the optimum rpm for saving fuel by automatically shifting up and throttling back.
In Custom mode, Eco allows two minimum engine speeds to be set. Operators can turn Eco on or off with the Eco button on the throttle or in the transmission settings page of the CommandCenter™ display.
Top field performance comes in the form of ten gears in the main working range from 5 to 16 km/h (3.1 to 10 mph), providing the ideal gear for the most demanding of pulling applications.
AutoPowr lets you accelerate smoothly from start-up to maximum speed with a single lever and absolutely no clutching. Just choose a specific speed and AutoPowr keeps it steady by automatically responding to changing load conditions.
There are four modes available in AutoPowr, including Full Auto, Custom, Manual, and Pedal mode, which enables you to control ground speed separately from the engine speed.
Designed and built exclusively by John Deere, the four-range AutoPowr transmission ensures 55 to 100 percent mechanical power flow for ultimate tractor efficiency and maximum power to the ground. Less hydraulic power transfer also means lower oil cooling requirements – a further efficiency boost.
Achieve low transport application costs with top speeds of 40 km/h (25 mph) at 1360 rpm and 50 km/h (31 mph) at 1630 rpm.

Even in challenging conditions such as low visibility (e.g., at night or in dust or fog) or rolling terrain, your field is always being worked with flawless accuracy to ensure ideal crop spacing. Once you have experienced the benefits of AutoTrac, you will never want to go back.
John Deere does not just give you a guidance system. You get a full offboard solution on top and for free. It gets your operators into the right fields, enables them to start work in the field quicker, and ensures consistent data (e.g., boundaries and guidance lines) across displays in a fully automated fashion while your data is backed up at all times.
New field boundaries can be easily imported from a subsidy application portal or farm management software via shapefile. You can also draw them online or modify any existing boundaries, which is a great help for first-time field localisation, especially if you contract or use seasonal employees.
You can wirelessly send all data to the machines you select at the push of a button, eliminating time-consuming and error-prone manual set up on multiple displays in the field. When you approach a new field, the related client, farm, and field data will automatically be detected. Upon confirmation, the boundaries are loaded, and the preferred guidance line can be chosen from a pre-populated list.
Wireless data transfer is the easiest way to have accurate and actual data updated between the machine and office simultaneously.

ISOXML documentation
The Premium Activation not only features Data Sync for close to real-time documentation delivery to your office (updates every 30 seconds), it also brings you the full flexibility of ISOXML documentation data (TC-GEO) that allows you to route data to other farm management information software (FMIS) systems.
The John Deere Operations Center puts your farm in your pocket. Easy-to-understand, integrated tools support your agronomic decision making and help you get maximum yield and consistent quality from your soil at significantly reduced input costs. Plan your crop rotation and tasks for the upcoming season with a structured overview that will make it effortless to create display setup files and work orders. As the individual tasks are being completed, your documentation data is automatically uploaded from the in-cab display to your personal Operations Center account. From there, all operational details are easily visualised on a well-structured timeline anytime, anywhere, and from any internet-capable device, allowing you to view your mapping or compare different map layers like yield, dry matter, crop constituents, and application rates.
On top of all the Premium Activation features, you can also reap the benefits of AutoTrac™ Turn Automation, AutoTrac Implement Guidance – Passive, Machine Sync, and In-Field Data Sharing.
AutoTrac Turn Automation automatically controls the entire headland turn and manages all tractor and implement functions, including forward speed changes and power take-off (PTO) switching. The advanced solution raises or lowers linkages at exactly the right time and position in the field to guarantee perfectly consistent headland crop growth.
AutoTrac Implement Guidance – Passive solves a problem the single AutoTrac solution cannot: in uneven terrain and on slopes, the weight of your pull-type implement will cause it to drift. The results are quality-reducing gaps and overlaps. With a second receiver on the implement, regardless of the terrain, you can achieve highest precision standards in all your seeding, planting, and tillage operations.
In-Field Data Sharing lets you see coverage and as-applied maps for machines working in the same field at the same time. It’s how you can make sure that you get complete field coverage with multiple machines, even in low light and/or dusty conditions, while you reduce over-application, obtain more accurate documentation data, and lower input costs. They say that information is power, and it can certainly be profitable.
Machine Sync enables the global positioning system (GPS) based synchronisation of speed and steering between a combine and tractor with a grain cart or trailer during unloading in the field. This means even trailer filling without losses and reduced vehicle collision risk. In addition, it provides important logistics information such as grain fill tank level and combine position to allow operators to make informed decisions about the most direct route to the next destination.
The hydraulics in the 8R, 8RT, and 8RX Series Tractors give you more power than you need, the versatility you require, and the accuracy you always desired.
The CommandCenter™ system gives you precise control over individual selective control valve (SCV) flow rates and time detent. You can also control the hitch and SCV from the rear fender.
Up to six SCVs at the rear, up to two at the front, and power all the way up to a benchmark 321 L/min (84.8 gpm) drive even the largest implements at fuel-saving reduced rpm (227 L/min [60 gpm] at 1500 rpm).
Take-out capacity is 40 L (10.6 gal.) as standard and 90 L (23.8 gal.) with the optional auxiliary tank. The 1.9-cm (3/4-in.) high-flow coupler option delivers an outstanding flow rate of up to 160 L/min (42.3 gpm) to just this one output.
With PTO options like the 1000 and 1000E, 8R Series Tractors provide the versatility and flexibility needed to satisfy all implement demands at this power level.
For increased versatility, a 1000-rpm front PTO option is available from the factory for 8R Tractors equipped with the John Deere front hitch.
